Best Calorie App for Intermittent Fasting
I ran Zero + MyFitnessPal for a year. Switched to Yazio because the fasting timer is built in. Wish I had done it sooner.
The two-app problem for IF users is real: fasting-only apps (Zero, Fastient) have weak food databases; calorie-only apps (MFP, Cronometer) have no fasting timer. Reconciling between them is a daily friction point that causes logging abandonment.
Yazio Pro — the integrated pick
Yazio is the only major calorie app with a native fasting timer built into the free and paid tiers. The timer supports 16:8, 18:6, 5:2, and custom windows. It logs eating windows against calorie totals automatically. Price: £24.99/year first year, £34.99/year renewal.
The food database is adequate for most users but not as accurate as Cronometer. For IF users whose primary goal is window tracking + approximate calorie awareness (not micronutrient precision), Yazio is the correct pick.
Lose It! — the free scanner pick for IF
Lose It! does not have a native fasting timer in the free tier, but it integrates with Apple Health and records eating window data. For iPhone users who use the Health app to track fasting windows, Lose It! is a workable alternative. Full Lose It! review →
Zero + Cronometer — the dual-app pick
If you want the most accurate calorie tracking AND fasting timer, run Zero (free) for windows and Cronometer (free or Gold) for nutrition. The sync is manual but the accuracy of both is the highest in their respective categories. Full Cronometer review →
